Coming Effectually Again is the 13th studio album past the American singer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Arista Records, on April 13, 1987.

The offset of many albums Simon recorded for Arista, the title runway was written for and featured in the 1986 picture Heartburn, along with "Itsy Bitsy Spider". As a single, it became a worldwide hit; in the United states of america, it peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, condign Simon'south 12th top 40 striking, and it reached No. 10 in the UK. The album itself reached No. 25 in both the US and the UK. Information technology was certified Silver by the BPI in September 1987, and Platinum by the RIAA in early 1988.[one] It has since sold well-nigh ii million copies in the US. Shortly after the anthology'due south release, a live outdoor concert also entitled Carly Simon – Coming Around Again was recorded in June 1987 on Martha'southward Vineyard, Massachusetts for HBO, and later released on video and DVD as Live From Martha's Vineyard.[2] On a pier in front of an invited audience, Simon and her band performed 8 of the album'southward xi songs, along with some of her greatest hits. The concert was also released as a live anthology in 1988 entitled Greatest Hits Live.

On October 27, 2017, Hot Shot Records released a 30th Anniversary palatial edition of the anthology. The two disc set includes six bonus tracks, including a 12" extended remix of the single "Give Me All Night", and the Oscar winning "Let the River Run", forth with a second disc consisting of Simon'southward aforementioned Greatest Hits Live anthology, retitled for this set equally Carly in Concert – Coming Around Again. An in-depth interview with Simon is also included in the albums booklet.[3]

Writing for Rolling Stone, Rob Hoerburger gave a positive review of the album and wrote "The title cut on Coming Around Once more gives Simon the chance to stride away and deliver a cozy, soothing, even hopeful song. The song sets the mood for the entire album. Many of the tracks progress with the same dull, tuneful strides and reverberate Carly'due south new lyrical stance — that of an older sister or female parent. In well-nigh cases, this would hateful instant death with younger listeners, but Carly pulls information technology off, because her voice stays absurd and confident. Possibly all those years of fugitive the road have paid off for her; while the other acoustic heroines of the 1970s — Carole Male monarch, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell — take frayed at the edges, Carly's vocalization nevertheless sounds like it's in i slice. Of all the confessional singer-songwriters who emerged out of the lx's counterculture to confide their personal feelings in recorded pop song cycles, she has been one of but a handful to sustain a major label recording career of such duration. And of that scattering, she has stayed the closest to the personal confessional fashion."[6]
